What to Eat When You’re Trying to Lose Weight

Good Monday Girl Talkers!!

Hope the weekend was great, your fave football team won and dining in or out didn’t resemble the cafeteria shot from Animal House. Have you ever noticed you go all week sticking to that meal plan that we’ve talked about here on Girl Talk and then BAM!!!!!

Diet?

Diet?

Dang, you lost control over those salty chips, salsa and gwwwawck! Well, I guess every now and then it’s alright, but when it occurs every night, that’s when we should start worrying, especially if you’re wanting to look and feel your very best.

As tempting as puritanical diet trends may sound (cabbage soup diet, anyone?), the key to losing weight is eating a balance of the right foods. All good things in moderation, right? Here’s our fab guide on what to nibble on while you’re trying to keep off the pounds!

Load Up On Protein

Protein is essential at each meal for blood glucose stabilization and satiation. Good sources of protein include lean meats, poultry, fish, eggs, plain yogurt, nuts, and cottage cheese.

Fill Up On Fiber

Fiber (both soluble and insoluble) is essential to slowing digestion and keeping you feeling full. Our fave fiber rich foods include brown rice, whole grains, veggies, and nuts.

Don’t Be Scared Of Fat

That’s right. Fat! Fat is also important when dieting. Fat is necessary for your body to absorb vitamins A, E, D, and K. Without fat, your hair and nails can become brittle and your skin can start to look dull. Look for healthy fats like Omega-3 fatty acids in fish or monounsaturated fats in avocados.

Don’t Eliminate; Reduce:

A big mistake dieters make is omitting one food group completely. Losing weight and, more importantly, keeping it off means including all food groups in your diet but reducing the amount of food. For example, eliminating carbs may sound good, but when you cut carbs, you also eliminate fiber.

So now we’re starting a fresh new week and it’s time for meal planning. Planning ahead helps  to keep a check and balance on your diet and helps to focus on your goal. The weekends are made to have fun, and believe me Saturday is my day to eat whatever I want, but I do that

in moderation!
